About Comhaltas Bhré
The artists at our branch live the traditions. Our music has been passed on from generation to generation. Our indigenous culture and our music have been made sustainable through networks and branches like ours. Once on the brink of oblivion, our music now defines a genre, is part of our community, association for the diaspora, and art of our heritage.
Our Community & Heritage
'Community' is at the heart of Comhaltas. The outputs of our branch are our cultural assets. Our cultural assets belong to our community. They express the goal of our branch - the personality and identity of our community through our cultural heritage. We remember former generations and bridge them to new ones, emphasising that our heritage is our proud resource.
Our Fleadh Cheoil (Festival of Music) is a multi-sided event where aspects of our traditions are celebrated through competition, tutorials, performance, master classes and instrument making. Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann (Music Festival of Ireland) is known globally as the largest folk festival on the planet. Participation and competing align with our goal of developing cultural assets.
